Have you ever gone through something life changing? Something beyond your control that changed the way you live? Well, you’re not the only one. A man named Job has probably gone through more than you have. In the beginning of the book of Job, we find God conversing to Satan about Job, claiming that he is “blameless and upright” and one who “feared God and shunned evil”. Satan responded, saying, “does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan believes that Job is only “blameless and upright” because of how the Lord has blessed him. God then gave Satan control over the possessions of Job. Satan started removing “valuable” things that Job owns in hopes of Job responding in a sinful way, cursing the Lord. Satan one by one, took things away from Job such as his donkeys, servants, sheep, camels, and eventually the lives of his own sons and daughters. In response to his life “falling apart”, Job immediately tore his robe, shaved his head, and dropped to his knees in worship. On the floor, Job cried out, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart, the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; May the name of the Lord be praised!” Wow. Job, also known as “the greatest man among all the people of the east” went from having almost anything he wanted to rapidly losing it all. Through the trials and tests he went through, he worshiped the Lord. Later in Job chapter 2, his own wife tells him to “curse God and die”, yet Job still kept God as his focal point. This is so encouraging to know that if Job can lose it all, yet at the same time, have everything he needs, then we can too. If you are going through a troubling time right now, ask yourself what it is that is troubling you. Is it wealth, time, stress, health? If so, question your purpose. Is your purpose to make money? To please other people? To keep up with the world around you? To have the best body? Job could’ve easily cursed the Lord for losing so many of “his” possessions, yet he kept his focus on Christ, and worshiped Him. Honestly, it can be extremely difficult to find the audacity to worship in a time of loss, therefore next time you start to struggle and get caught up in the worldly things around you, pray and ask for Biblical wisdom. Prayer is worship. “Worship is connection. It’s returning a love song to Jesus”. -Amanda Cook

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
