Self Worth

One of the biggest problems that we find each other struggling with these days, especially teenagers, is the way we view ourselves. A lot of the time, we want to please other people around us by our looks, the way we talk, and who we spend our time with. Believe it or not, this affects our purpose and true goal as Christians. I often see myself thinking things like, “well, if I wasn’t born with a big nose, then my facial profile would look better”, or “maybe if I wasn’t born with the temptation to want to eat everything, then I wouldn’t be overweight”, or even, “I would be like ten times better if I were a little taller”. This is the problem; these examples are of myself pushing the blame to others, even to God. In Ephesians, it states in verse ten of chapter two, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago (NLT).” Sometimes we feel the need to be better than those around us, so that the other people around us will like us more. It’s crazy how we think. If you really try to fathom the idea of the knowledge of God, you will seriously get confused because it is everlasting. It’s so weird how we trust the “god of me” over the God of all. We always get so caught up on, “how can I better my status”, and get so distracted from what’s really important. We were created to worship God. He has plans for our lives, and I’m very sure that it is not to be the “hottest kid in town” or the “kid with all the new stuff”. If we were created to worship Christ, then why would we focus our lives on stuff that only lasts for around 78 years when we, instead could focus on things that will last for eternity, like our relationship with the one who created us? It is so important to be close to Christ. To know is to grow; you cannot truly grow if you aren’t passionate about pursuing Jesus.
