Anyone else worry about how to have the perfect family? Anyone else feel stressed out all of the time? Anyone else get annoyed with the crappy things that happen throughout the day such as stubbing your toe or dropping your dinner plate on the floor? Anyone else getting annoyed that I’m asking a million “anyone else” questions? Well, you’re not the only one. We all talk about whether or not we had a “good day” or a “bad day”, when in reality we all have difficulties that we go through everyday. For many of you it could be something much larger such as a health issue, or even something as small as stubbing your toe for others. One of mine would be a number that I’m constantly chasing, that seems to be imaginary and impossible to reach (the right blood sugar). My point is, there is no such thing as the perfect day here on earth, so why are we always waiting to have a “good day” instead of thanking God for all of our days, good and bad? As humans, we always want more. We never seem to be satisfied. In one of my favorite Bible stories, a man named Job, who seemed to have what most people in that time would have considered to be everything, lost it all in a very short amount of time. In short, Satan claims that Job is only a blameless and upright man because of the earthly material that the Lord had blessed him with. God gave Satan His permission to take away from Job so that He could prove that Job would stay faithful no matter his circumstance. So, Satan eventually took away Job’s property, livestock, and even his family. As time goes by, Job breaks down. This is the part I love — Job broke down, however he did not break down in anger and question why he was robbed of all he had, he instead chose to break down in worship. Job one, verses twenty through twenty two state, “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, ‘Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’ In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.” This amazes me. We ought to learn how to respond with a perspective such as this one. I find it so interesting that throughout all of this, Job did not sin or even question God throughout this loss. Job lost it all yet worshiped, and we threw a temper tantrum last night, because we missed the latest episode of our favorite TV show. My point of all of this is this; don’t ever get caught up in striving to live the perfect life, but be grateful for the life that the Lord has blessed you with already. Just rest in who God is and trust that He will provide you with what is best for you. He has never failed you, so why would you question Him, knowing that by the time you have recovered you will recognize how your Savior worked through your “difficulty”. I like Job; be like Job.
